IRENA statement on the decision to postpone the West Africa Investment Forum / the 6th International Off-grid Renewable Energy Conference in Abuja, Nigeria

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, 28 October. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has made the difficult decision, due to circumstances outside its control, to postpone both the West Africa Investment Forum (WAIF) to be held on 31 October and 2 November; and the 6th International Off-grid Renewable Energy Conference (IOREC) to be held from 3 to 4 November during the International Energy Transition Week in Abuja, Nigeria.

IRENA wishes to inform all its partners and member countries that the events are being rescheduled and new dates will shortly be agreed between the Government of Nigeria and IRENA. Once again, we sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by this announcement, and we look forward to welcoming you to the event once it has been rescheduled.

The International Off-grid Renewable Energy Conference and Exhibition (IOREC) is a flagship event of IRENA and acts as the global platform for sharing experience and best practices on design and implementation of enabling policies, tailored financing schemes, innovative business models and technology applications for stand-alone and mini-grid systems.

It is convened every two years, with the first four editions of the event taking place in Accra, Ghana in 2012, followed by Manila, Philippines in 2014, Nairobi, Kenya in 2016, Singapore in 2018 and virtually in 2021. Outcomes and key takeaways report of the 5th edition of the IOREC provides an insight on the deliberations and learnings from the event.

The 6th IOREC is expected to attract experts from around the world and across the off-grid renewable energy sector. Over the two-day event, participants will deliberate on enabling policies, financing schemes, innovative business models and technology applications for scaling up off-grid renewable energy for access.

Furthermore, innovators, practitioners and entrepreneurs from the off-grid renewable energy space will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services in the exhibition, organised by the Alliance for Rural Electrification, which will run for all 5-days of the IETW Nigeria.
